The Palaeo/Mesoproterozoic sedimentary basins of the São-Francisco-Congo Craton

In this joint research programme, Augusto and myself are comparing the Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic metasedimentary successions on the São-Francisco Craton with those on the Congo Craton.
Sedimentation on the São-Francisco Craton comprises the Espinhaco Group, which is interpreted as a continental rift- and sag-basin, while coeval sedimentation on the opposite side of the Atlantic Ocean is known as the Chela Group of southern Angola. Further inboard of the Congo Craton, additional continent-dominated sequences occur in the Kibaran and Irumide belts, and on the Bangweulu Block.
