MAPPING IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA
The mapping
programme in Papua New Guinea covers an area of twentyfour 100K map
sheets in the Central Highlands. The project, called "GEOMAP" , is
hosted by the Mineral Resource Authority in Papua New Guinea.
The mapping project is funded by the European Development Fund, under
the SYSMIN funding arrangement. The total budget over five years is
13.8 Million Euro (download PDF)
Partners in the mapping include the Deutsche Montan Technologie (DMT),
the South African Council for Geoscience (CGS) and the British
Geological Survey (BGS). I undertook mappiung during one field season
(5 weeks) between April and June 2008 in the Jimi map sheet (Sheet
7787) north of Mount Hagen. This sheet straddles the boundaries between
Madang, Enga and Western Highlands Provinces.
